40 Camels and Pickled Peaches

We love the Dead Sea. Our trip down was kind of long, and a guy kept chewing everyone out that he met, not us thankfully, but once we got down there it was nice. It's crazy how North Israel is so green and hilly, and then as soon as you pass Jerusalem, it's desert. There are occasional orchards of, say, date trees. But mostly it's dry, hot, and various shades of brown. We actually ended up in a place south of where we wanted. We wanted to go to Ein Geddi, and ended up in a less luxurious place called Ein Bokek. There the floor of the sea is covered in salt balls the size of golf balls. Luckily your feet never touch the ground because you're floating! It's really a struggle to keep your feet under without them popping back to the surface and sometimes rolling you over. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Then we got some mud and covered ourselves from head to toe. Our skin felt oh so silky smooth. Then the lifeguards invited us up to their booth for some juice, so we went up and chatted. When they found out that Stacy was married, they said "if you divorce your husband, I will give 20 Camel for you marry me." Then they found out I was not married and they said "oh then we pay 40 Camel!" It was funny.

So that was that, after frolicking among the salt balls and actually getting to stand on a push boat thing for pictures (lifeguard hooked us up with that one), we headed back for the long haul to Tel Aviv. Next time we go to Israel, we want to go to Ein Geddi.

So I guess a 40 camel woman is way better than an eight cow woman!
