Holy Waters and a Moon
We attended church today again at the BYU Jerusalem Center. The people here are really nice and seem very impressed that two young girls would travel to Israel all by themselves instead of in a group. Brooke met a boy. He's the Elders Quorum President and works for the US Consulate. They made eye contact and sparks flew. He even went so far as to give her his business card and drive us to the Old City. They're getting married in a month. Mark your calendars.
We got to walk on top of the old wall in Jerusalem. Before we did that Brooke had to buy a BEAUTIFUL blue flowy skirt with sequins and white waves of elegance. She had a wardrobe malfunction with her original skirt she wore. This new one is much better. You'll see. So here we are walking on top of the walls, both wearing flowy skirts, and having Marilyn Monroe moments every few steps. It was fun. We even snuck down into a little cave full of homeless people's stuff. We are so brave.
We then walked through the dangerous streets of the city after feeling so courageous. We went to see the Pools of Bethesda. This is where Christ healed a lame man on the Sabbath. We had a tour guide that was very willing to show us everything. He took us down to the water, and after I had already walked back up, he apparently offered to let Brooke "dip her feet in". All I know is that when she came back up, she had an expression on her face that was priceless. My thoughts were that he either offered to marry her, or made her very uncomfortable while washing her feet. Her story is that he started with her feet, told her to lift her skirt up so he could wash her leg - and I guess he pulled her skirt up himself well above her knees so that her underwear was exposed (only on her thighs-nothing inappropriate). He tried to proceed to wash her back by sticking his hand up the back of her shirt!! She quickly started walking away, and he finished by "bathing" the outside of her shirt instead. Apparently, in the past, people would flock to these waters to bathe and cleanse themselves of all their infirmities. Now it's fenced off - but the guide climbed over and did it all through the gate. All with the gate in between Brooke and him. To top it off, as she was walking up the very steep stairs, she stepped on her new flowy skirt which showed the guide even more than what he already saw. This explains the expression on her face that I saw as she walked up. It was hilarious. But she is healed, so no worries. We then sat on the bench and enjoyed the feeling of the surroundings. It was really nice knowing that Christ had performed one of his miracles there. We also went inside the church that had where Mary was born and where her parents lived.
