This has been an interesting and fun week! There has not been a whole lot of down time. We've been to Antiqua, Tikal, Lake Atitlan, Quirigua and we even took a "short cut" over the mountains of Guatamala into Honduras to Copan! The shortcut was one of our favorite things after we made there alive. Picture the movie Clear and Present Danger in the small villages and jungle then add being a little lost with no road signs miles and miles of winding roads through the mountains, half of it dirt roads. We saw a total of about 3 cars in the 3 hours or so that we were driving. Well no bad guys jumped out and got us, we were stopped by a heard of cows and they wouldn't move until Brown bumped them with the van. When we told the guide at Copan that we had come that way he said "you guys are crazy"! The truth is the people we met in the mountains were sooo nice. In one little town where we had circled it 3 times trying to find our way, we stopped and asked. After talking to 3 different groups of people a policeman jumped on his motorcycle and lead us several miles down these unmarked roads and then refused to take money for gas. They were great. One road we went on felt like we were going up a roller coaster ride and it felt like the car was going to tip over backwards. That was a road that we weren't suppose to be on and we got off it fast. We figured out that once we got on the dirt road we would take the "road most traveled" and then we did alright. Quite the adventure through some of the most beautiful country. The little village we stayed at in Honduras was great as well. Beautiful flowers in a park outside our window, great food and nice people. Your Dad says he could live there.
We spent a lot of time hiking up and down ruins that were amazing! Dad took enough pictures to fill several books and he sure looked like Grandpa walking around those ruins with his camera. He was in Heaven! We will send pictures and I will write more soon. Right now I need to pack and head home!!
Love you all!
