John's email from 1/29/2008 (2nd try)

Hello there um i dont think we will be able to do the airport business, because there are 7 guys flying with us, and i was assigned travel leader. They told us that we couldnt meet up with anyone but they are fine with us calling. So around that time i will be calling either you or dad i guess. This is probly the last time i get to check before then by the way. but we fly atlanta to miami to liima. So we wont be getting to peru till like 6 in the morning there time. Lets see a ton has happened this week. When we heard the passing away of the prophet there was no better way i wanted to hear it. We were watching the movie The Restoration which is one of the best movies the church has made so far, but its not public yet. But once it is it will convert the entire world. Its the most money put into a movie, they have good actors and good cameras and effects this time totally different then before. But at the end of the movie it showed the death of Joseph Smith and had a scene of him looking into the heavens, then they cut it off even though it had a couple minutes left, and said the prophet about an hour ago has past away. The room went quiet with shock, and then everyone started crying. I cried a bunch took me way off guard. But we have had good convos about it and its really different getting imidiate news cause we are in utah instead of waiting a couple hours. So it was very sad but we knew it was time. Lets see what else has happened... i did see peter by the way, he has class 2 floors above me i talked to him his first day and gave him pointers i luckily learned the first few days. I told him that if you survive the first 3 days than you are set. Those days were the worst so far, these days are flying by now and are normal to me. Getting up doesnt even phase me....sometimes. But there are some amazing guys in my zone Elder Harris, Elder Watson, and Elder Lee from Utah want to come down to "hot lanta" to party haha. Its funny everyone is so interested in what it is like down there. And yes i did receive my package of cookies and half eaten twizzlers and i loved it thank you. My companion is from Las Vegas but went to BYU before he came. He is a great guy and we get along fine still. We now have our room to ourselves which is sad because our room mates elder hunter and elder arnold left for Cali this week. It is way different with out them. I dont know really what else to say, umm i am keeping my journal(and you guys thought i wouldnt i bet) and i take notes and study like crazy. Sounds kina like the same stuff i did at home. But we do find time to have fun at the same time which really does help my brain from exploding. But said goodbye to my teachers Hermano Anderson and Hermano Ericson. I will try and send some pictures in the next email. But anyway i am goin to go write some more people but i am excited to call you guys tomorrow!
